Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard
To handle credit cards from major card companies, the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is an information security standard. The Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council is responsible for overseeing the standard, and the card companies have made adoption of it mandatory. It was developed to enhance data security for cardholders and lessen credit card fraud. Annual or quarterly validation of compliance is carried out using a technique appropriate for the volume of transactions.
